[vc_row inner_container=”true” no_margin=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/1″][text_output]The Launch YouTube channel hadn’t been updated with content lately.
I had a lot of things I wanted to say and share but wasn’t.
New (to me) content creators had sparked an interest in videography and fostered the ever-present desire to learn within me. So, I created the 30 Videos in 30 Days Challenge.
Simple. Relatable. Actionable.
The goal was to create one video every day for 30 days and to publicly share them.
I wanted to write the verbiage for every video as opposed to using quotes or the words of others, so I made the word count goal simple, 100 words each. I also wanted them to be quick, so I chose to keep them to a minute. Lastly, I wanted to brand them, so that I could easily find them on social media in the future, so #30vids.
It seemed simple enough to do, but challenging enough to push me. And it was! I never would have imagined that 100 words and 1-minute of edited video would be so taxing.
[x_pullquote cite=”SG” type=”left”]“Ship, as in contribute your art and vision and expertise and passion to the project you’re working on.”[/x_pullquote]As a natural introvert, leaving the house to film every day, especially in the middle of a hot and humid summer, was challenge enough. Second to that was my amateur knowledge and experience with videography, cameras, editing, and my limited filming resources. But the greatest challenge, one I didn’t consider (enough) when deciding to do this, was that no matter what, I had to publish/ship/upload (publicly). No matter how bad of a job I’d done, no matter how many flaws and errors I could see in the work, I had to put it out there. After the second video, what started off as a fun way to challenge myself to create more became a hard lesson in shipping.
Since I first heard Seth Godin talk about the Lizard Brain I’ve tried to quiet mine. The Lizard Brain is the part of you that runs and encourages you to hide at the moment you are ready to ship/upload. The Lizard Brain is also known as the resistance…
“That little voice in the back of your head that tells you that it will never work… the one that worries that people will laugh at you.”
-SG
So, despite how cringeworthy the video was, and trust me, there are a few that I NEVER EVER want to see again, I forced myself to put it out there.
Making, creating, getting started is hard, but giving it to the world, being vulnerable, and pushing through the resistance is the hardest.
I did it.
I created 30 original videos with video footage shot by me, edited by me, and with the exception of two videos, written by me. You can watch all 30 HERE. (They aren’t all basketball related, btw. That theme just coincidentally bookended the challenge.)[/text_output][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px”][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/2″][x_video_embed id=”” class=”” style=””][/x_video_embed][/vc_column][vc_column fade_animation_offset=”45px” width=”1/2″][x_video_embed]
