[vc_row inner_container=”true” padding_top=”0px” padding_bottom=”0px” border=”none”][vc_column][text_output]Small things can be great. Not every dream or goal has to be as large as changing the world for it to be ‘great’. Whatever your thing is, it just needs to be done in a great way and to the best of your ability in order for it to make an impact.
I saw a YouTube video the other day that was a series of pictures a guy took during his trip to Africa, and the slideshow played accompanied by a song he had written about his experience. Thirty seconds into the video I was so done with it. I rolled my eyes at fact that someone had made another trip and another video of an American spending a few days in Africa, filming it, and returning home having changed nothing. But before I closed the window, I began to feel bad and the angel on my other shoulder whispered in my ear, so what. So what if this guy was proud of what he’d done, what if it did actually change his life or the life of a child he held while he was there. So what if he’ll never see them again or if he wanted to show the world pictures from his trip. Shout-out to him. He didn’t have to go, he didn’t have to hold a child or write a song about his experience, but he did. I don’t know what impact his trip, his words, or his actions had, and who was I to feel some type of way. I’ve never gotten vaccinated and dragged my behind across the globe to help someone. He didn’t change the world, but he did one small thing, he did it well, and made an impact.
On a walk the other day I saw a little girl selling water ice. In the middle of a summer day, this 7(ish)-year old was using what she had, to do what she wanted. In Philadelphia, there’s a water ice store on every block, franchises, mom and pop shops, even water ice trucks. But, she didn’t cower to that or let that make her fearful, she simply started doing something small in a great way. Not only was she polite, personable, and professional, but she’s conveniently located and keeps great hours, so, I am now a customer. She most likely will not grow up and scoop water ice professionally, but she has certainly laid the groundwork for a life of doing great things.
If you can do great things, cool, if you can do small things, than do them, and do them in a great way.
